Summer Arts Camp for Kids: Introducing Kids College
This summer, Indiana University Indianapolis is rolling out an exciting summer arts camp for kids, targeting incoming seventh and eighth graders. The streak kicks off on June 9, welcoming students to experience college life firsthand at the Kids College program. We’re in collaboration mode here with several IU bodies, like the Office of School Partnerships and the K-12 Student Success Corps, to make this two-week camp accessible and entirely free!
What Makes Kids College Stand Out?
The Unique Blend of Fun and Learning
At this summer arts camp for kids, the focus is not just about introducing art — it’s an eye-opener to different career paths, from public health to law, without sacrificing the fun! Students will dive into interactive sessions of art and technology. What’s possibly more fun than a lesson on zombie apocalypse survival? Nothing beats that! Field trips to local gems like the NCAA Hall of Champions Headquarters and Indiana State Museum bolster what students learn in the classroom.
Creating a Path to Higher Education
Breaking Barriers with Educational Support
Kids College doesn’t just stop at letting kids have fun; it’s part of a bigger statewide initiative that Lilly Endowment Inc. supports. This summer arts camp for kids gears towards students who might be the first to head to college in their family or live in communities where higher education once felt out of reach. It aligns with the hopes of qualifying young minds for programs like the 21st Century Scholars.
Reaching into the Community
Diverse School Participation
We’re rallying in students from urban public schools like Indianapolis Public Schools and others, including charter schools, making this summer arts camp for kids a multifaceted urban endeavor. No community left behind!
Beyond the Classroom: Real-World Experience
Field Trips and Hands-On Learning
The experiences here go beyond classroom walls. Field trips offer a tangible taste of their surrounding world, while activities like legal case studies and social work projects inject them with confidence and real-world knowledge. This isn’t just preparation; it’s inspiration!
Ready to Register?
Kids College is scheduled weekdays from June 9-20 (yep, June 19 is off, giving a breather). Those interested can visit the Kids College online portal for more registration details, pickup times, and drop-off logistics.
Let’s Stay Connected
