Here in our small Ohio hometown, Brooklyn Nelson, a senior at Coshocton High School, is preparing for an incredible adventure before pursuing her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. Yes, that’s right! Our very own local star is stepping onto a much larger stage: Walt Disney World.
Surfing the Disney Magic: Brooklyn’s Audition Adventure
Brooklyn, though not a Broadway actress, captured her moment by joining the Disney College Program. She’s packed her bags and will be working and living with other young women at Flamingo Crossing, right in the midst of Mickey’s magical kingdom. Brooklyn isn’t entirely sure what her role will be, but she’s no stranger to performing, thanks to the training and love for dance she inherited from her mom, who owns Miss Jennifer’s Dance Studio. Talk about a full circle moment when a childhood passion opens such doors!

The apple didn’t fall far from the tree for Brooklyn. Her mother, Jennifer, who once worked at Disney, must be over the moon. It’s easy to see where Brooklyn gets her love for performing. Trained since she could barely walk, Brooklyn teaches dance to kids aged 3 to 7. Thanks to this background, Brooklyn was more than ready to shine during her Disney tryout. During auditions in Atlanta, she was one of just 12 picked out of hundreds. The odds, about 80% left at the roadside, didn’t stand a chance against her passion and skills.
Coshocton’s Darling Excels in the Disney College Program
Brooklyn’s interest in entertainment isn’t just a fling; it’s her way of connecting with others, especially children. Working at Walt Disney World aligns well with her future in Elementary Education, something she’s very passionate about. Brooklyn emphasizes that the team at Disney calls these positions “roles,” not jobs. Add a dash of fairy dust, and she might be skipping down Main Street in a parade, seamlessly transitioning between characters, maybe even Cinderella one sunny day and Donald Duck the next.
Bringing Magic Home: Brooklyn’s Connection to Coshocton
Apart from her roles in the entertainment industry, Brooklyn remains deeply invested in her community. She’s been a busy bee around town: president of her class, involved in the National Honor Society, Key Club, and even 4-H with market hog projects. All of this has empowered her with leadership and a sense of unity that she hopes to bring back to her roots. Otterbein University is next in her sights, where she’ll study to become a teacher.
