Celebrating the Dance Foundation Legacy in Homewood

Our community is buzzing with excitement as we prepare to celebrate the Dance Foundation legacy on its 50th anniversary. This won’t be just a stroll down memory lane; it’s an all-ages dance party happening on Saturday, August 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Edge on Green Springs Highway. Get your dancing shoes ready for an unforgettable evening!

50 Dances for 50 Years: The Golden Theme

The theme, “50 dances for 50 years,” promises a vibrant mixture of social dances including The Hustle, the electrifying Macarena, and the ever-engaging Cupid Shuffle. This evening is more than just movement; it’s an experience waiting to happen. Come take part in Movement to Music demos, become a part of the dance with audience participation segments, and let your creativity shine with our craft activities. Hungry? Our local vendors offer a variety of food and drinks for purchase.

Remembering the 1970s: A Tribute to Our Roots

Honoring the foundation’s birth year of 1975, this event is a heartfelt tribute to the 1970s era. Expect music that will transport you back to disco balls and bell bottoms. Admission is absolutely free of charge. We’ve made sure everyone can join in the fun by ensuring The Edge venue is fully ADA compliant with designated parking and accessible restrooms. Should rain attempt to dance on our parade, there’s a rain date set for August 23.

The Heart of Homewood: The Edge Venue

The Edge is more than just a venue for us; it’s home. Based on Green Springs Highway, this location has been a beacon for dancers since 2003, offering a sanctuary for classes, rehearsals, and performances. Over 1,500 dance enthusiasts visit weekly, underscoring our commitment to community engagement and the ongoing Dance Foundation legacy.

Programs that Empower: From Studio Classes to School Curricula

Our mission has always been inclusive. The Dance Foundation legacy thrives because it cherishes diversity and participation across all abilities. From our Dance Studio Classes Program to the innovative Dance Partners Program, integrating dance into school curriculums, the opportunities to learn and grow through dance are endless. Need a space? Our Dance Space Rental Program supports local artists by providing them with rehearsal and performance areas.

Community Love: Sponsors Making Magic Happen

Such an event is not possible without the steadfast support of our sponsors like B’ham Now, Homewood Arts Council, Alabama State Council on the Arts, among others. This dance party would be unimaginable without their dedication.

Our Dance Foundation Legacy: More Than Just Dance

From its grassroots in 1975 to today, the Dance Foundation legacy continues to weave its way through the fabric of our community. Diane Litsey, our executive director, put it beautifully when she said our mission is about “everyone having the space to flourish in dance.” Throughout the years, we’ve sparked inspiration in schools, shared stages, and found our rhythm in countless locations.

A Call to Dance

Join us this August 16 for a night marking the Dance Foundation legacy, where every footstep is celebrated, every twirl is triumphant, and every person belongs. The floor is open, and all that’s missing is you.
